About this degree

The Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Senior Phase and FET Teaching is a specialised postgraduate programme that prepares you for teaching in secondary schools.

You will gain advanced theoretical knowledge of the principles of education and learning and you will develop the practical skills to be a professional teacher. You will cover seven compulsory modules as well as a choice of two subject area methodologies based on completed undergraduate school-specific majors. The fundamental education modules are Educational Psychology, Assessment, Diversity and Inclusive Education, Curriculum Theory and Practise, Ethics and Law, and Education in Historical Context. In addition, you will complete supervised school-based practical teaching sessions.

The emphasis throughout is on developing well-rounded and professional teachers who have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and who are dedicated and enthusiastic about developing and growing young people.

We believe the success of our unique Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Senior Phase and FET Teaching lies in its academic rigour, its emphasis on practise and application, and on a curriculum that is highly relevant and driven by the needs of society. Throughout the programme, you are given opportunities to develop your teaching skills and professional insights through constant interaction with Pearson Institute teaching staff, teaching professionals and other students. The Certificate gives you access to register with the South African Council of Educators (SACE).
